I wonder how many thoughts I never finish. Not because they're bad, but because another one arrives halfway through. It's like walking through a forest and seeing ten different trails. I take three steps down one, notice another that looks more interesting, then another. Eventually I forget where I started. Actually... that's kind of funny. Maybe thinking isn't supposed to be linear. We keep pretending our minds should behave like books, but they're probably closer to webs. Everything connects to everything else. A coffee mug reminds me of ceramics, which reminds me of kilns, which reminds me of stars because they're both really hot, and now I'm wondering if someone has ever accidentally discovered something important just because their thoughts wandered. Probably. It's strange that ideas can feel familiar before they're understandable. Sometimes you get this feeling that something makes sense, but you can't explain why yet. It's sitting just outside language. Like trying to remember the name of a song you haven't heard in years. You know it's there. You just can't reach it. Speaking of memory, why do I remember random things so vividly? I couldn't tell you what I had for lunch three Tuesdays ago, but I could probably describe the sound of an old ceiling fan from a house I visited once as a kid. The brain has a very questionable filing system. Maybe it doesn't optimize for importance. Maybe it optimizes for novelty. That would explain a lot. I also wonder if creativity is less about inventing things and more about noticing combinations that everyone else walked past. A bicycle plus electricity becomes an e-bike. A phone plus a camera changes photography. A notebook plus hyperlinks becomes... well, half the internet. Maybe the best ideas are hiding in plain sight, waiting for someone to say, "What if these two unrelated things were actually related?" Then again, maybe that's oversimplifying it. Actually, I think I like questions more than answers. Answers tend to stop conversations. Questions open doors. "Why?" has probably built more civilizations than certainty ever did. Although... there are definitely questions that should stay unanswered for a while. Not forever. Just long enough to make the answer worthwhile. Time is weird too. Five minutes waiting for something feels longer than an hour doing something interesting. So if experience stretches and compresses time, then maybe our lives aren't measured in years. Maybe they're measured in attention. A year spent noticing everything might actually feel longer than three years spent on autopilot. That's an odd thought. I wonder how many beautiful things people miss simply because they weren't expecting beauty to be there. A reflection in a puddle. The shadow of leaves moving across a wall. The perfect timing of two strangers laughing at the same moment. None of those announce themselves. They just happen. Maybe that's the point. Not everything valuable needs to be loud. It's easy to assume the biggest moments define life, but when I think about it, most memories are surprisingly ordinary. Conversations. Walks. Looking out of a window. Waiting for the rain to stop. Maybe life isn't built from milestones. Maybe it's built from thousands of tiny moments that quietly agree to stay with us. ...Anyway. I should probably stop overthinking this. Although, now that I think about it... overthinking is a funny word. If thinking leads somewhere interesting, was it really "over" thinking? Or did it just take the scenic route?
